NBA in-season tournament: Prize money| Standings 2023
The 2023 NBA In-Season Tournament is an ongoing multi-stage basketball tournament that is part of the 2023–24 NBA season. It is the first edition of the NBA in-season tournament. All 30 teams participate, each playing four regular season games that count toward the tournament’s group stage standings. All games in the knockout rounds, except the championship game, will also count towards the regular season standings. The semi-finals and championship matches of the tournament will be played at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip.
Prize money
December 9 will see the champion winning $500,000 for all players on the roster. The runners-up will receive $200,000 each; Losing semi-finals $100,000; and $50,000 to the quarterfinal losers.
The Most Valuable Player award will also be given along with all the tournament teams.
For years, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had expressed a desire to add an in-season tournament to the league’s calendar. Well, he finally got his wish.
As part of the most recent collective bargaining negotiations, the NBA and its players agreed to begin in-season tournaments for the first time during the 2023–24 campaign. The league took elements from European football tournaments to bring more excitement to the regular season.

Houston’s upset over Denver has further implications for other Western Conference teams
Houston eliminated one of the top contenders for the in-season tournament title with its win over Denver.
The Rockets moved to 2-1 and dropped the Nuggets to 2-2, but they probably won’t be the biggest beneficiaries of the win.
That honor will go to the Pelicans, who top West Group B with a 3-1 record.
The Rockets must beat Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday to clinch the head-to-head tiebreaker with New Orleans. If Houston loses to Dallas the Pelicans will advance as group winners.
Dallas has nothing to play for with regard to the in-season tournament, but at full strength, it could challenge Houston and its two superstars could dominate the matchup.
Denver’s loss also allowed other contenders in the West to feel more confident about their chances of winning the title.
The Lakers have already advanced thanks to their excellent record in West Group A. The Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors are still alive to advance.
Phoenix currently leads the wild-card standings as the best second-place team, but cannot advance its position. Golden State plays Sacramento on Tuesday and Minnesota takes on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Most of those teams would be weak against a full-strength Denver team, so they all welcomed the Nuggets’ downfall.
