The NBA Draft is an annual event that dates back to 1947 in which National Basketball Association (NBA) teams can draft players who are eligible and want to join the league. These are usually college basketball players, but international players are also eligible to be drafted. College players who have completed their four years of college eligibility are automatically eligible for selection, while underclassmen must declare their eligibility and give up their remaining college eligibility. International players who are at least 22 years old are automatically eligible for selection, while players below 22 years of age must declare their eligibility. Players who are not automatically eligible, but have declared their eligibility, are often referred to as “early-entrants” or “early-admission candidates”.

The 2022 NBA Draft will be held at the Barclays Center in New York on Thursday, June 23 – the ninth year in a row the event has been held there. The 2022 NBA Draft will have 58 picks between rounds 1 and 2, as opposed to the traditional 60 (resulting in the Bucks and Heat losing their second round picks due to violating the league’s anti-tampering rules).
NBA free agency begins August 2 at 6 p.m. ET.
