Nathan Merritt (born 26 May 1983) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. Merritt fainted while staying at his aunt’s house, where he was found unconscious on Friday afternoon. Reports suggest that his collapse was caused by a serious adverse reaction to prescribed painkiller medication. The 40-year-old man was immediately taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown, where he was listed in a serious condition.
Merritt’s family, friends and former teammates were informed of his critical condition as he fought for his life. South Sydney Rabbitohs chief executive, Blake Sollee, expressed the team’s deep concern, saying, “Nathan is in the thoughts and prayers of every Rabbitohs at this time.”

Merritt played in the Koori Knockout on the NSW Central Coast last weekend and spectators claimed the winger suffered an injury during a game.
