Nathan Raymond McKinnon (born September 1, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey center and alternate captain of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL). McKinnon was selected first overall by the Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Sometimes referred to as “Nate the Great” or “The Dog”.

Nathan McKinnon did just that. Wednesday night’s Game 5 between the Colorado Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues was a chaotic one, with the Blues on the verge of being eliminated by the second round. The Avalanche took a 3–0 lead in the middle of the game, but the Blues were able to slowly overcome it before a 3–3 tie in the final five minutes of the third.
Then, something remarkable happened. McKinnon – who already had two goals in the night – cut his way through the Blues defense. result? A sensational coast-to-coast goal that McKinnon finished with a silky smooth deck around the Blues defenseman and lifted up Ville Husso for a 4-3 lead.

McKinnon’s Avalanche took a 3–0 lead early in the game, with the Nova Scotia native contributing a pair of goals. However, despite the unfavorable conditions, the Blues made a comeback and all the momentum appeared late in the final frame. It was until McKinnon went into brute mode to score one of the craziest playoff goals you’d ever see.
He circled the puck behind his net, gained momentum to exit his area and, across the center ice, absolutely fooled a Blues defender, then scored a goal in front of netminder Ville Husso to complete the hat-trick.
