Chen was adept at his free skate, which combined with his big lead after a short program allowed him to claim gold in men’s figure skating at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

(Looking for a brief rundown of Wednesday’s events? We’ve got you covered.)

Chen was not the only American to win gold on Thursday.

Chloe Kim made history as the first woman to win two Olympic gold medals in the halfpipe. His first run was what he needed to get him off the ground by a wide margin.

Chen and Kim join snowboarder Lindsay Jacobellis in winning the gold medal for Team USA so far.

Chen already improved on his 2018 performance in Pyeongchang, where he stumbled through the short program and failed to win a medal. But the job isn’t done, as Chen has a free skate routine tonight, where the competition starts at 8:30 p.m. ET.

America’s biggest rivals will be Yuma Kagiyama and Shomi Uno of Japan. Kagiyama scored 108.12 in the short program and Uno 105.90. Both of them are sitting in second and third place, moving towards the chain tonight. Uno is the current silver medalist in this event.

US Also competing is Jason Brown, who had a sixth best score in the short skate with 97.24.

Does win gold

American ice skater Nathan Chen has won his first Olympic gold medal in Beijing, with a flawless performance that put him well above the competition in the men’s singles skating event.

Chen, who had been a favorite in Thursday’s event at the Beijing Winter Games, clinched his victory with a lengthy program packed with moves to show off his technical prowess, which earned the 22-year-old the nickname of “Quad King”. ,

He also became the first American since Ivan Lisacek in 2010 to win a men’s figure skating gold medal.

Nathan Chen returned to the Winter Olympics to compete better than ever but he didn’t forget where his dreams began.

After coming close to medals in Pyeongchang four years ago, the 22-year-old Utah native broke a world record in Beijing on his first night on the ice, scoring a historic 113.97 in the men’s figure skating short program. On Wednesday, he is going after Gold in the men’s free skate. But before getting back on the world’s biggest stage, Nathan took some time to reminisce about his early days. As it turns out, the two-time Olympic medalist shares cherished memories with fellow figure skater and U.S. women’s national champion Maria Bell.

On January 10, Nathan went down memory lane and shared a heartwarming photo of himself and Maria from back in the day. In the Instagram picture, the two are seen cheering on their team at an American figure skating event.

“Really started from the bottom up and now we are champions and members of the Olympic team!!!” He captioned it.

– He flew across the ice, floated through the air, challenged the laws of physics with his jumps, and when the music finally stopped after four minutes of great skating, Nathan Chen didn’t have to look at the score to know Thi: He was the Olympic winner.

Chen delivered a spectacular free event with five quadruple jumps here on Thursday to win the men’s individual gold medal for the United States, avenging his disastrous uneven performance at the Olympics four years ago in the grandest of ways, and talks about of whether he is the greatest skater of his generation.
