Backstage fight
Social media users’ opinions on the UFC 279 press conference backstage altercation involving Khamzat Chimaev, Kevin Holland, and Nate Diaz were divided.
It was planned for Chimaev, Diaz, and the other UFC 279 competitors to participate in a pre-fight news conference.
However, a backstage brawl is said to have been started by a dispute between Holland and “Borz.”
Fight cancelled
After Khamzat Chimaev failed to make weight for their scheduled fight, Nate Diaz will face Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279 instead.
The 37-year-old Diaz was scheduled to face No. 3 welterweight contender Chimaev in the last bout of his UFC contract, but officials scrapped the bout after Chimaev failed to make weight by 7.5 pounds.
When Diaz weighed in at 171 pounds earlier, the UFC was left without a main event.
Ferguson, 38, and Li Jingliang, who both weighed in at 171 pounds, were slated to square off in the co-main event.
The UFC then pulled Ferguson from his fight with Jingliang to put him against Diaz in a five-round main event after Diaz refused to agree to a catchweight match with Chimaev.
Chimaev will compete against Kevin Holland, who is also.
Who won the fight
In The Ultimate Fighter 5, Nate Diaz joined the UFC as Team Pulver’s second choice.
As he defeated Robert Emerson in the preliminary round with a rear-naked choke in the second round, Diaz outclassed everyone else on the show.
Following this, Diaz defeated Corey Hill via first-round triangle choke in the quarterfinals.
To go to the final, Nate first defeated Gray Maynard in the semifinals by guillotine choke submission in the second round.
Manny Gamburyan and Diaz squared off in the show’s finale.
Due to Manny’s shoulder injury in the second round, Diaz won the fight by TKO.
Nate was awarded a contract with the UFC as a result of winning Season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter.
