Who won the
Ryan Blaney takes two tries to win Sunday night’s All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Blaney stopped Denny Hamlin and Austin Sindrick on a two-lap restart when he thought he had won the race just minutes earlier. The restart took place after unnecessary caution for Ricky Stenhouse Jr., as Blaney was between Turn 4 and the finish line. Blaney didn’t realize that caution had been taken when he crossed the finish line and took down his window net to celebrate.
He took most of the precautions that came with trying to reconnect the window net and was able to do so well enough to meet NASCAR’s window net mandate and officially win the race.
The All-Star Race has to end under the green according to NASCAR rules. In an official NASCAR points race, a caution on the final lap will mean the race is over. But since Blaney had not crossed the finish line, when NASCAR took precautions, the race had to continue and Blaney had to try to win again.
Lineup
Bush won pole for the NASCAR All-Star Race in Texas. He will be joined in the front row by Ryan Blaney, who was the runner-up in the eight-driver bracket tournament to determine the first place.
Six other participants in the eight-man tournament will start from third to eighth in the All-Star race. The other 12 drivers in qualifying would be ranked 9th through 20th depending on their speed during single-lap qualifying that began at night.
Four more drivers will join the fray on Sunday via the All-Star Open and an online fan vote. They will start on the back of 20 drivers who went through qualifying on Saturday.

This year’s race will feature a new qualifying format for drivers already locked in the All-Star Race. Qualifying will consist of two rounds. The first round will see a single lap in reverse order of the current 2022 owner points. The top-eight qualifiers in the first round will move into a one-on-one elimination bracket.
The eight-car elimination bracket will place a heavy emphasis on pit crews, allowing their talents to shine through to improve the qualifying status of their drivers. It will have two cars staged in temporary side-by-side pit stalls near the end of the pit road. At the sound of the alert, each pit crew will make a four-tire pit stop, and at the drop of a jack, drivers will exit their pit stall onto the track without the speed limit on the pit road. The first car to go back to the start-finish line will advance to the next round.
