Naomi Osaka: What happened to| Parents

Osaka, who was 22 at the time and had already won two Grand Slam titles, told Swietech it was a terrible idea. You’re really cool, Osaka told Swietake, who was cramming high school homework at the time. Don’t put your energy into college just yet, Osaka advised.

What happened to

1 Tennis player, Naomi Osaka is seen in tears by a spectator at the Indian Wells tournament. Osaka was defeated by Veronika Kudermatova in straight sets (6-0, 6-2). The four-time Grand Slam champion was taunted by someone in the crowd who was shouting, “Naomi, you sock”, as reported by the BBC.

For Osaka, this tournament marked a remarkable turnaround that only a few noticed, even though he felt it was not far off. Just three weeks ago at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, a lone heckler reprimanded her during her second-round match, leaving her in tears and reminiscing about the racist treatment of Serena and Venus Williams at the event two decades ago. Gone.

But it also appears that Osaka, who lost 6-0, 6-4 to Veronika Kudermatova that night, may not be ready for the pressure and pressure of a professional tennis tour filled with a year’s break and setbacks. A year-long struggle with her mental health and questions about whether playing tennis could ever make her happier

Parents

Naomi’s parents are Leonard Francois (who is from Haiti) and Tamaki Osaka (who is from Japan). Naomi identifies as black and Asian, but, despite having grown up in America for a part of her life, says she does not identify as American. “I don’t necessarily think I’m American. I don’t know how that feels.”

Tamaki met Francois in Japan when she was in high school and he was in college. The two dated in secret for years, and Tamaki’s family didn’t speak to her for nearly a decade and a half when they found out about her relationship with François. When Naomi was 3 years old (she was born in Osaka), the couple moved to Long Island to live with Francois’s family. But the family was reunited with Tamaki’s family in 2008.
