With the win, Mystic Dan has earned a winning share of the $3.1 million Kentucky Derby purse.

Mystic Dan’s trainer, Kenny McPeek, became the first trainer since 1952 – and the fourth – to win both the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby in the same year: Thorpedo Anna won the Kentucky Oaks on Friday.

For Mystic Dan himself, it’s the second time – he won the 2024 Southwest Stakes (Grade 3) race at Oaklawn Park on February 3 this year. Entering Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, Mystic Dan had career earnings of $550,050.
