MotoGP™ is finally back on Philip Island, one of the jewels of the calendar, and there’s a lot to think about when you put that into your MotoGP™ fantasy selection. It has been three years since the championship was occupied on the seaside circuit and, as it did last time in Buriram, the weather looks like a wildcard in proceedings. With all this in mind, let’s consider the form guide ahead of this weekend’s Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Phillip island

The spectacular Phillip Island Circuit is one of the most iconic and exciting venues in world motorsport. Since visiting the country for the first time in 1989, an Australian Grand Prix has been held every year. The first two Australian GPs were held at Phillip Island, and the major class races in both of those years were won by home rider Wayne Gardner.

The Australian GP was then held at East Creek for six consecutive years from 1991 to 1996, before returning to Phillip Island in 1997, where it has remained ever since. Australia has produced so many two-wheeled racing stars such as Gardner, Mick Doohan, Troy Bayliss, Troy Corsair and Casey Stoner, a testament to the country’s rich motorcycle racing heritage.
