Monty Williams deserves all the praise.

The head coach of the Phoenix Suns has taken the perennial bottom feeder to the NBA Finals for the first time in 28 years. It should come as little surprise that the Suns are now the Western Conference champions after shedding tears last season in the NBA bubble during the coronavirus pandemic. With stars like Chris Paul and Devin Booker, they’re legit.

Williams has definitely found a home in Phoenix. Even after the tragedy, his family was shocked.

Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams has been involved in the NBA in some capacity since 1994. He was a player for the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers.

After his playing career, he moved to the bench where he went from Monty Williams to assistant coach Monty Williams. He served on the coaching staff of the Portland Trail Blazers for five years before being hired as the head coach of the New Orleans Hornets, which later became the New Orleans Pelicans.

Five seasons later, Williams moved from the Big Easy to Oklahoma City, where he was an assistant coach under then-Oklahoma City Thunder headman Billy Donovan, who now coaches the Chicago Bulls.

During one of her seasons at OKC, Ingrid was tragically killed in a car accident when a driver crossed the lane and hit her in a head-on collision. The second driver also died. So was his dog, who was riding on his lap at that time. Ingrid was just 44 years old.

News outlets from the Associated Press to The Oklahoman covered the heartbreaking incident.

Thunder released a statement after the car accident.

“The Thunder Organization is heartbroken with the news of Ingrid’s passing tonight,” Statement.
