Amid conflicting reports, Raiola’s own Twitter account posted for clarity: “Current health status for those wondering: P***** off for the second time in 4 months. They were able to revive me.” Huh.”

Raiola was in hospital in January, with German tabloid Bild reporting that he was being treated for a lung disease, but his spokesman at the time played down any concerns, saying: “Mino Raiola is undergoing general medical examinations including anesthesia. Everything was planned, and there was no emergency surgery.”

Four months later, Tariq Panza of The New York Times said that he had been told by a “close friend” of Raiola that the Italian-Dutch agent was “very, very sick” – but he also denied earlier reports that he had was dead.
