Injury update
New York Jets quarterback Mike White suffered a right arm injury while throwing a touchdown pass in a 45-30 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night. The Jets had to turn to Josh Johnson at quarterback throughout the second half, and the Colts scored 21 unanswered points between the second and third quarters to make up some distance.
Led by Jonathan Taylor for 172 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns, Indianapolis amassed 261 yards—the most in the NFL by a team this season. Carson Wentz passed for 272 yards and three touchdowns.
White, who set an NFL record with 37 completions in his opening debut last week while throwing 405 passing yards in an upset win against the Cincinnati Bengals, rookie a 19-yard touchdown pass from Colts defensive end DeForest Buckner. Throw it and kill it. Wide receiver Elijah Moore leveled the game 7-7 in the first quarter.
When the trainers saw White’s hand on the edge, he struggled to throw the ball and was replaced. Johnson stepped up to throw for 317 yards, which included three touchdowns and an interception in the second half, when the Jets trailed 42-10.
After the game, Jets head coach Robert Saleh said White could not catch the ball. White said he felt numbness in the two middle fingers in his throwing hand.
Is playing tonight
On the heels of a heroic performance against one of the best teams in the AFC, the New York Jets and many fans are looking forward to seeing backup quarterback Mike White once again. Was the win against the Cincinnati Bengals a fluke or have the Jets finally found something in it?
To know the Jets for sure, they would have to see him a second time.
The flip side, however, was that rookie quarterback Zack Wilson was the original plan, before his knee injury sidelined him for a Bengals game. If the Jets decide to take a detailed look at Mike White, it could mean the end for Wilson.
That said, if Wilson is still unable to play due to injury, the Jets could be in a perfect place to put Wilson’s future on the dock while taking another look at White. Will Zach Wilson’s injury keep him out of tonight’s game?
Will Mike White play in the relief of Jack Wilson tonight?
According to CBS Sports, Zach Wilson is battling a PCL injury to his knee. Usually a serious knee injury can take players out for the season.
However, it is not that type of injury and Wilson will not be able to play for the rest of 2021. That said, he will not be able to play against the Colts tonight and is out.
