Mike Tyson died from drugs – sorta.
“I died on my first trip,” the 55-year-old former world champion boxer told The Post at Wonderland, a Miami convention dedicated to psychedelics, micro-dosing and medicine. “In my travels I have seen that death is beautiful. Life and death both have to be beautiful, but death has a bad rep. Todd has taught me that I am not going to be here forever. There is an expiration date. “
The “toad” is a Mexico amphibian Bufo alvarius, otherwise known as the Sonoran Desert toad. It spends seven months of the year living underground, but when it is active, its venom can be smoked to produce a short psychoactive journey. Poisons have long been used in traditional healing rituals, but with the popularity of LSD and ayahuasca among the rich and famous, the “toad” is getting a lot of attention.

To that end, he has invested in Vesana Health, a biotech company that is using psilocybin to treat traumatic brain injuries.
“I’m fighting for psychedelics to become the drug that you can buy over the counter,” he said. “I’m not finished. I want to do more. I want to be the best in this field.”

He said he originally indulged in smoking Toad’s venom after doing it as an adventure four years ago. “I was doing heavy drugs like cocaine, so why not?” Tyson said, noting that he was 100 pounds overweight at the time and was heavily involved with drugs. “It’s another dimension,” he said of the experience. “Before I was Todd, I was a wreck. The toughest opponent I’ve ever faced was me. I had low self-esteem. People with big egos often have low self-esteem. We tend to subsidize it on our own. Let’s use the ego. Toad takes away the ego.”
