Wife:

Mike McDaniel and his wife Katie Daniel are a long-term married couple. The new head coach of Miami Dolphins has caught everyone’s attention.

Miami Dolphins currently hired Mike as their new head coach. Before getting his position as a head coach, Mike previously worked in the San Francisco 49ers as an offensive coordinator.

Wiki:

McDaniel has started his new journey in Dolphins from 49ers, which has brought him into the spotlight. The NFL coach is currently with a four-year contract under the Dolphins.

He has replaced Brian Flores, the previous head coach of Dolphins, after Brian got fired. Check out the personal life details of the newly appointed Dolphins’ head coach.

McDaniel began his NFL career as an intern for the Denver Broncos in 2005, then spent three seasons as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans under Gary Kubiak.

He spent another three seasons as an offensive assistant and a wide receivers coach for Washington — on a staff that included current head coaches Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers, Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams and Kyle Shanahan of the 49ers.

What race is:

McDaniel followed Shanahan, at the time an offensive coordinator, to a one-year stint with the Cleveland Browns, where he was a wide receivers coach, then spent two years with the Atlanta Falcons, where he was an offensive assistant.

Shanahan became the 49ers’ head coach in 2017 and hired McDaniel as the run game coordinator before promoting him to offensive coordinator last offseason.

Sober:

In McDaniel’s five seasons in San Francisco, the offense has ranked 11th in rushing yards, with the fifth-highest percentage of runs that pick up 10 or more yards.

Flores filed a racial-discrimination lawsuit against the NFL, Dolphins, New York Giants and Denver Broncos last week over the interview processes in New York and Denver and his firing by Miami.

Alcohol:

In that lawsuit, Flores alleged that owner Stephen Ross offered him $100,000 per loss during the 2019 season. Ross denied the accusation last week.

I was wondering what led to the UFL stint, and USA Today NFL columnist Tom Pelissero would appear to have the answer. Pelissero put together a fascinating feature article on McDaniel earlier this week.

Heritage:

It turns out, McDaniel has dealt with an alcohol problem throughout his life, but has not had a drink since January 2016. He credits the Falcons coaches and front office for providing the support for him to enter a rehab facility and get a better handle on the underlying causes of his drinking (depression).

They don’t clarify when McDaniel went to rehab, but it would appear to be early in the 2016 offseason. Once he returned from rehab, Dan Quinn gave him a bigger role in generating game-plan ideas. Shanahan remained the leader of the offensive coaching staff, but it appears McDaniel got more opportunities this past year.
