Michael John McCarthy (born November 10, 1963) is an American football coach who is the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018. In 2011 he led the team to Super Bowl XLV over his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers. He was previously the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.

Contract
It took a long time for the Dallas Cowboys to part ways with their former head coach, and very little time to find their next man for the job.
Former Packers coach Mike McCarthy has signed a deal to become the Cowboys’ next head coach, NFL Network’s Tom Pellisero and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The team later made the deal official on Tuesday.
Rapoport later said that McCarthy’s deal with the Cowboys was for five years.
McCarthy’s appointment comes less than a day after the Cowboys officially parted ways with Jason Garrett as the team’s head coach after nine seasons.

During his career he was previously the head coach for fifteen seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He led the Packers for thirteen seasons, compiling a record of 127–79–2. In 2010, the Packers won the Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers 31–25. He was fired from the Packers. His next major coaching stint was with the Dallas Cowboys from 2020 to 2021, as he led the team to an 11-11-0 record. Throughout his head coaching career, his two teams combined for a 138–90–2 record in fifteen seasons, including going 10–8–0 in the playoffs.

McCarthy’s offensive line paved the way for the Bears, who were ranked 15th in the nation in total offense, averaging 454.4 yards per game. The offensive line helped improve the run rate to 153.4 yards per game, up from 65.1 yards the previous season. The Bears’ run game averaged 4.4 yards per carry and finished second in the Ivy League. McCarthy played a leading role in developing second-team All-Ivy selection Chad Broome-Webster. The Bears’ 2020 competitive season was canceled due to COVID-19.
