Mike William Krzyzewski is an American college basketball coach. He has served as the head coach at Duke University since 1980, where he has led the Blue Devils to five national titles, 12 Final Fours, 15 ACC tournament championships, and 13 ACC regular season titles.

Back Surgery:
The sirens from Duke’s police escort sounded in the distance before three black buses turned down Mason Street and slowly pulled alongside the curb in front of the Blue Devils’ team hotel on a sunny and warm Tuesday afternoon.
“I think that’s them,” a man outside said to one of his colleagues, “if you want to go ahead and get everyone lined up.” Soon enough the people that worked inside the hotel formed two lines outside the entrance while the buses arrived and began to empty.

Raised as a Catholic, Krzyzewski attended St. Helen Catholic School in Ukrainian Village, Chicago and, later, Archbishop Weber High School in Chicago, a Catholic prep school for boys. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1969, and played basketball under Bob Knight.
Duke had arrived in San Francisco for the NCAA tournament’s West Regional, which begins Thursday. The arrival set off a buzz of anticipation among the hotel employees, who did not seem the most familiar with the NCAA tournament or their guests from the other side of the country.
National Championships:
Duke has won 5 NCAA Championships (tied with Indiana for fourth all-time behind UCLA, Kentucky, and North Carolina) and appeared in 11 Championship Games (third all-time) and 16 Final Fours (fourth all-time behind North Carolina, UCLA, and Kentucky).
Since then, Duke has been in seven Final Fours and Carolina has been in 10. They have been in the same Final Four exactly zero times in that span. Here’s what’s wild too: from 1992-01, either Duke or Carolina was in the Final Four EVERY YEAR except one (1996).
