She is a three-time overall World Cup champion, a four-time world champion in slalom and a six-time winner of the World Cup discipline title in that event. On the final night (ET) of the 2022 Winter Olympics, Jesse Diggins earned silver in the 30 km cross-country race – her third Olympic medal overall.
Mikaela Shiffrin, Rivera Radamus, Paula Moltzen and Tommy Ford finished just short of the podium in a down-to-the-wire finish in tough conditions in the mixed team alpine event. Finland won its first Olympic hockey gold medal, and Germany dominated in the four-man bobsled.

At the opening ceremonies on February 4, conflicting sentiments were brewing as the pandemic-era second Olympics began in Beijing. But in the finale, the overwhelming emotions that ripped through the TV screens were those of joy and relief. There was no way to predict it. Not for anyone, including Mikaela Shifrin herself.
That the American skier would go 0 for 5 in the individual race at the Beijing Olympics, without any medals and with a best-place finish of ninth, was hard enough to imagine at first.
That she won’t even manage to complete those three events – three that are her best, including Thursday’s Alpine combined – was one of the most surprising developments of the entire 2022 Games.
“I’m definitely asking for a lot,” Shiffrin said. “I’m really disappointed. And I’m really disappointed.”
She reached China as one of the biggest stars of ski racing – or any sport. The owner of three Olympic medals, two gold and one silver. Six World Championships gold. A total of three World Cup titles.

Mikaela Shifrin ended her third Olympic Winter Games on Sunday (February 20) without winning a medal.
The American and his fellow mixed team from the United States advanced to the smaller final in parallel, the last event in the alpine skiing event in Beijing 2022, but were defeated in the time countdown after a 2–2 tie.
On their way to the semi-finals, the United States defeated Slovakia and Italy, where they lost to Germany (1–3). Shifrin – who always competed in the slow red race – lost three of her four face-offs: she defeated Slovakian Rebecca Jankova by 0.64 seconds in the first round, but then lost to Marta Bassino in the quarterfinals (0.02).
