Sacks 2021:
The Dallas Cowboys rookie scored an upset win in the Fastest Man portion of the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown on Thursday, outracing a field of three other speedsters, who may or may not have been taking the challenge as seriously as him.
The 6-foot-3, 245 pound Parsons, the heaviest player in the field by nearly 20 pounds, beat out Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb and teammate Trevon Diggs in the 40-yard dash. It was a close win, with Chubb only a nose behind.
Legal Issues:
Hill didn’t even start the run in a speedster’s stance, which was a clear sign that he is still recovering after playing in the AFC Championship Game with the Chiefs last Sunday, losing to the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, Hill’s stance does not detract from the status of Parsons, the Cowboys’ 12th overall selection in last year’s 2021 NFL Draft, with numbers in his first season in the league of 84 total tackles, 30 QB hits, 20 tackles for loss, 13 catches, three forced fumbles, three passes defended and first-team All-Pro honors.
Beats tyreek hill:
Instead, Parsons said the real fastest man is Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who finished behind Parsons in the event along with Browns running back Nick Chubb and Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs. Parsons noted that Hill wasn’t giving it his all in the race and is still healing up from Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.
“I know he isn’t coming out here and playing his best. He just played a couple days ago. He’s the fastest man in the league. I’m just happy to be somewhere in the middle. I do want a Madden 95 speed, though,” Parsons said.
The NFL has introduced the Pro Bowl skills competition in an attempt to replicate the same success the NBA gets from its dunk contest and baseball gets from Home Run Derby. So far, it hasn’t generated much attention, but a fastest man competition could potentially generate real interest from fans — if the fastest players in the league really took it seriously. Parsons took it seriously, but Hill didn’t.
