Micah Richmond Hyde (born December 31, 1990) is an American football safety for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Iowa and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Hyde had a large role in the Packers’ nickel defense package, but has emerged as an early protection for the Bills since signing with him in 2017.

Punt return

Following the success of his second year, Hyde was rotated between free safety and cornerback during spring practice and started the first two games with safety. He was moved back to cornerback against Pittsburgh and had two interceptions, the other winning the game for the Hawkeyes as it allowed him to run clocked out. He finished the year with 72 tackles (1.5 for a loss), 3 interceptions and a forceful fumble. He was named to the All-Big Ten team as an honorable mention. [8]

In his final year with the Hawkeyes, Hyde was named to a first-team All-Big Ten selection and also won the Tatum-Woodson Award, given annually to the best defensive back in the conference.[9][10 ] He ended his career starting every game for three consecutive seasons. He finished his senior year with 78 tackles, 14 defended passes, one interception, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Hyde was one of 60 defensive backs to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, and did all of the combination drills. On March 25, 2013, Hyde competed in Iowa’s Pro Day and ran positional drills. He attempted to do better in several combination drills, but was only able to shorten his time in the three-cone drill (6.67s). He was estimated to be the sixth round pick by NFL draft experts and scouts. [12] He was ranked the 25th best cornerback prospect in the draft by DraftScout.com.

High School

Upon dropping out of high school, Hyde was heavily recruited and received scholarship offers from several schools, including Iowa, Ball State, Bowling Green, Miami (OH), Ohio, and Toledo. He was ranked as a two-star dual-threat quarterback by Rivals.com [5] He ran a 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds, had a 3.2 grade point average at Fostoria and scored 20 on his ACT.

Hyde eventually decided to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes and competed primarily on special teams and a defense that had 11 players who would be drafted into the NFL. He got his first college playing time in a game against Northern Iowa and contributed a tackle on special teams. He also appeared against the Michigan Wolverines and recorded two tackles.

During his sophomore year, Hyde played a much expanded role on defense and started all 13 games at cornerback. He made his first major impact in a game against the Ball State Cardinals, where he forced a fumble and intercepted a pass. Later in the season when the Hawkeyes played Michigan State, Hyde scored his first touchdown on a lateral from teammate Tyler Sachs late in the first quarter.[1] He finished the season with a career-high 82, 58 in tackles. In which there were 4 interceptions. His performance led to him being named an honorable mention in the All-Big Ten team.

Salary

Micah Hyde signed a two-year, $19.25 million extension with the Bills on March 11, 2021. Hyde received $13.3 million in guarantees as part of the expansion, of which $9.6 million is fully guaranteed to sign. Hyde received a signing bonus of $7.5 million as part of the new contract. If on the roster on Day 5 of the 2022 league year he will earn a $3.7 million Basic Pay Guarantee and a $2.5 million Roster Bonus. He will earn a roster bonus of $1.5 million if on the roster on the 5th day of the 2023 league year. Hyde has an annual per game bonus of $300,000.
