Melvin Gordon: Week 7| Stats| Fantasy| Is playing

We’re all waiting patiently for Jevont Williams to completely replace Melvin Gordon as Denver’s RB1. It hasn’t happened yet, and the Broncos are working for them – a shared backfield. Williams has still been a productive back, however, with back-to-back games with more than 50 rushing yards, and three straight at least 30-yard runs. He has also recorded at least three catches in the last four matches, which gives him even more value in the fantasy league.

Fantasy start/sit recommendation
Williams would be a good flex option against a Cleveland defense that hasn’t been doing well in recent weeks. He went three weeks without one, perhaps even due to a touchdown too soon. Keep him in your lineup this week.

Stats

Following the end of the 2014 college football season, Gordon prepared for the NFL Combination at the EXOS San Diego in Carlsbad based on the recommendation of his former Wisconsin teammate, Jared Abraderis.

At the 2015 NFL Combine, Gordon set a new record for a 60-yard shuttle with 11.0 seconds. However, the record was then broken by Byron Jones, who had a time of 10.98 seconds. [56]

The San Diego Chargers selected Gordon in the first round as the 15th overall pick. In addition, he was one of two Wisconsin Badgers to be selected that year.

Fantasy

According to PFF, Williams leads the league in missed tackles per carry. He averages 3.5 yards after contact. For comparison, Derrick Henry averages 3.6 yards after contact. Williams has been every bit as good, if not better, as advertised. Gordon has also been solid, averaging 4.7 yards per carry and 7.4 yards per target. It’s a true 50/50 split, and the arrangement has been stable for the first six weeks. In Week 7, Williams and Gordon face a Cleveland run defense that remains steadfast, while the Browns’ pass defense slips into a funk. Brown ranks 3.6 yards per carry against runs and is third in the DVOA. Both rank as lower-end RB2s.

The Denver Broncos play a short week against the Cleveland Browns for Thursday Night Football this week. Unfortunately, it gives players who take less time to recover. While the team did not have official practice on Monday, running back Melvin Gordon was estimated to have participated in limited fashion. Gordon has dealt with the injury over the past two weeks, so he may have been given a limited number of days to rest as much as possible.

If Gordon isn’t able to leave, the rookie running back Jevont Williams will be slated to play the lead and is cutting Gordon’s carries this season.

Fantasy Football Implications
The Browns are dropping the fifth lowest fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Week 7 has been known as goodbye hell for fantasy football with six teams this week. If Gordon is active, you should introduce him to your lineup and Williams deserves a start too. Williams would normally be a flex, but he clashes as he plays with the team on Thursday.

If Gordon sits, fire Williams confidently based on the workload alone. You have to keep an eye on Gordon’s condition as he is going through a short week.
