Running back, Melvyn Gordon overtook Latvius Murray, who was added to the Denver Broncos practice squad last week, after Jevont Williams suffered a knee injury.


Murray dominated touches in the backfield against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night, racking up 16 touches compared to just 3 for Gordon. Running back Mike Boone also had 2 touches.

Gordon looked disappointed standing on the shore. At one point during overtime, a vividly animated Jerry Judy was caught on camera talking to Gordon.

The Denver Broncos, running back Melvin Gordon, faltered again in Week 4, marking their fourth fumble and fifth-straight game of the season, dating back to the previous season.

Jevont is out with Williams (knee) for years now, however, Denver is in no rush to bench Gordon. Instead, the team’s coaches and players have backed running to bounce back against the Indianapolis Colts in Thursday Night Football this week.


“Melvin is a true supporter,” coach Nathaniel Hackett said on Monday. “This is a guy who’s been doing this for a long time. He’s tougher on himself than anyone. He’s part of our team and we love that guy. He knows there’s an accident right there.


“[Thursday] is a great opportunity for him to get back on the field and prove himself. We are excited to be a part of it and put him in great positions to be able to make plays.”

Hackett said on Monday he looked forward to seeing Gordon move on and a “great game” against the Colts. A day later, offensive coordinator Justin Outon said the Broncos were relying on Gordon to “carry the load” on Tuesday, and emphasized that they trusted the running back.

Salary

According to Mike Cleese of Kusa-TV, Gordon’s base salary would be $2.5 million and he could earn up to $4 million with incentives.

Gordon (6-1,215 pounds) entered the league in 2015 as a Wisconsin first-round pick with the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers. After spending the first five years of his career with the Chargers, Gordon signed on. A two-year, $16 million contract with the Broncos in 2020.
