Michigan State Football: 3 Reasons Mel Tucker Won’t Go For The LSU Job

With Michigan State football having some success early in Mel Tucker’s tenure and job opening at LSU, Spartan fans are collectively getting flashbacks. 20 years ago, Nick Saban led Michigan State to leave the Spartans for a 10-winning season and an LSU job for a Citrus Bowl berth.

Right now, Michigan State fans are terrified, thinking that lightning might strike twice.

Tucker’s name has been tied to the LSU job and while nothing concrete has yet been revealed, Spartans fans are starting to wonder if he can bolt just two years later.

That’s why I think Tucker will stay and there’s no need to worry about these rumours.

3. Michigan State Likely to Match LSU’s Offering
One of the most common misconceptions in college football is that Michigan State may not offer coaches like some of the top programs. it is not true. It’s a legend that is as old as Nick Saban and dates back to the time he left Michigan State for LSU.

Coaching Record

Tucker began his coaching career in 1997 as a graduate assistant under Michigan State University Spartans head coach Nick Saban. In 1999, he served as a defensive back coach for the Miami University Redhawks, and then followed Saban in 2000 to fill the same position with the LSU Tigers at Louisiana State University. In 2001, he became the defensive back coach for the Ohio State University Buckeyes under coach Jim Tressell. In 2002, Tucker was the defensive backs coach as Ohio State won a national championship, and in 2004 he was made co-defensive coordinator.

In-state 4-star recruit Alex VanSumaren has a chance of becoming a very good college football player, but he won’t make it to the University of Michigan.

Back in February, VanSumaren, who plays defensive tackle, announced that he was separating from Wolverine and opening his recruit back.

Well, on Friday, VanSumaren decided (again) his college and announced that he was committed to Michigan State University.
