Max Schaezer and his wife Erica added a new member to their family on Sunday, welcoming their first son Derek Alexander into the world, less than two hours after the national pitcher finished a full game five-hitter against the Miami Marlins.

Hours before Derek was born, Scherzer hit nine hitters and went on one of 109-pitch outings that lasted only two hours and 37 minutes. With the win, the Nationals shared first place in the NL East.

The couple has two daughters, Brooklyn and Casey, both born since the Scherzers moved to D.C.

Scherzer is 2-2 with 2.54 ERA on the season, which could be his last one at DC, depending on whether he re-signs with the Nationals after his contract expires this winter.
