John Matthew Stafford (born February 7, 1988) is an American football quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). Stafford graduated from high school early and enrolled at the University of Georgia in January, where he became the first true freshman quarterback since Quincy Carter in 1998 to debut for the Georgia Bulldogs football team, and since Eric Zier. The rest of the season was inconsistent for Staffords and Bulldogs. After home losses to both Tennessee and Vanderbilt, head coach Mark Richt named Stafford the starter for the rest of the season before Tereshinsky. Stafford scored 267 yards and two touchdowns in a 27–24 victory over Mississippi State. He completed 20 out of 32 passes for the U.S., and was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his efforts.
