I know you’ve probably read the headline and already made your way to Twitter to mock me for my recency bias, but I don’t think it’s far-fetched anymore. Stafford has always been one of the most statistically gifted quarterbacks in the NFL. However, the knock against him was his inability to always win. Now, in his first year away from Detroit, he wins a Super Bowl. This validated the rest of his career.

Rams win Super Bowl LVI as MVP Cooper Kupp leads team on game-winning drive
Yes, he has a career-losing record (86-95-1), but quarterback stat has had a huge push lately to prevent wins and losses. If people really believe in him, and believe me, many people believe so, then how can Stafford be passed on? The man is the fastest quarterback ever to reach 20,000 career passing yards. He’s the fastest ever to reach 30,000 yards, and wouldn’t you know it? He is the fastest player ever to reach 40,000 yards. In fact, Stafford only needed five more yards in a regular season game to reach 50,000 career yards. Yes, he will also be the fastest ever to do so in 183 games.

Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams rallied to capture the Lombardi Trophy with a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

The Rams QB went 26-for-40 (65%) for 283 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, but perhaps most importantly, he went huge when his team needed him most.

LA trailed the entire second half by the 1:25 mark in the fourth quarter, when Stafford tied up with Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp for a game-sealing TD. This is the third time in the Rams’ last three playoff games that Stafford has led a game-winning scoring drive when LA were tied or lost in the fourth quarter.

It also left some, including Fox Sports NFL analyst Mark Sanchez, raving about his performance.

Matthew Stafford spent 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions and scored zero playoff victories. Arriving in Los Angeles, he won a Super Bowl in his first season with the Rams. Mark Sanchez discusses what the title means for Stafford’s legacy.
