Ulrich was an offensive guard for the Indianapolis Colts for two seasons. His final game on an NFL roster was on February 4, 2007, when he helped the Colts win the Super Bowl by defeating the Chicago Bears 29–17. At the time of his death, Ulrich was a player advisor for Harvard’s Football Players Health Study and the head coach of Mountain Edge Athletics in Bozeman, Montana.
Cause of death
The family of Super Bowl winner Matt Ulrich, who died suddenly this week at the age of 41, is donating some of his brain tissue to research on CTE.
At the time of his shock death on November 5, Ulrich was the father of four young sons. The reason has not been announced yet.
According to Ulrich’s obituary on the Dokken Nelson Funeral Service website, the company organizing his funeral in his native Bozeman, Ulrich’s brain tissue will be used by scientists to further understand the neurodegenerative disease.
‘He served on the advisory board of Harvard Medical School’s Football Health Study, a long-term research effort on the health of NFL players,’ it added.
