“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Matt Ulrich,” Colts owner Jim Irsay wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “Matt was only with us for two seasons, but he left his mark over several seasons. Great guy, I heard he was a great dad – and he was a Super Bowl champion. My prayers to his family.”
Ulrich’s cause of death was not immediately known. An online fundraiser was created for his family.
“My heart is broken,” wrote Trae Essex, Ulrich’s college teammate at Northwestern. “My lineman brother. My NU brother. One of the best hearts you could ever hope for. “Helped me become the player I became.”
