Rookie painter Matt Araiza was released Saturday night by the Buffalo Bills after he was accused of participating in the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl as a student at San Diego State.

Bills general manager Brandon Bean said on Saturday that the team was not aware of the allegations against Ariza when he drafted the player. However, executives from two different teams told The Associated Press’ John Vavro that “they learned of Ariza’s involvement in an incident during the drafting process” but did not know the extent of the allegations.

Waro noted that the Bills were not the only team in complete darkness about the situation, “officials for three other teams said they had no knowledge of the allegations against Ariza prior to the draft and were only aware of the incident on Thursday. found out about.”

Contract

It’s going to be a tough road ahead for Ariazza, who, according to Mike Florio of PFT, is set to hold a signing bonus of $216,000 when the Bills selected him as the first pick of the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, his base salary of $705,000 is non-guaranteed, which means he is not going to get a dime now that he has been cut from the team.

Ariza’s camp has remained suspiciously quiet throughout the scandal, and they have not issued a statement regarding Bill’s decision to cut ties with her. For their part, the NFLPA has also kept quiet. This points to the notion that it does not appear that neither Arraiza’s camp nor the NFLPA will launch any sort of legal challenge to address Buffalo’s decision. As Florio reports, “It becomes very difficult to fight a team’s decision to cut a player if the player’s salary is not guaranteed.”
