Martinsville Speedway is a NASCAR-owned stock car racing short track in Ridgeway, Virginia, south of Martinsville. At 0.526 miles (847 m) in length, it is the shortest track in the NASCAR Cup Series. The track was one of the first paved oval tracks in stock car racing, built by partners H. Clay Earls, Henry Lawrence and Sam Rice in 1947, about a year before the formation of NASCAR. It is also the only race track that has been on the NASCAR circuit since its inception in 1948. Simultaneously, the Martinsville NASCAR track is the only NASCAR oval track on the circuit to have an asphalt surface on the straightway, then concrete to cover the turn.

The decision came on whether to stand late or stay out. William Byrne decided to stay out.

A late caution led to that decision in the Blu-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 with six laps remaining. Drivers wondered whether to go on a pothole road with overtime looming. Most of the field, including Byron, had not pitched in about 100 laps.

Byrne decided to stay out – as did the rest of the top five – and went on to work overtime on the old tyres. It was the right decision. Despite a late push by Joey Logano, Byrne took the white flag as leader and hung on for victory at Martinsville Speedway. He became the winner of the cup series only twice in 2022.

“Man, that feels great. I knew we probably were when the last caution came out – I thought everyone behind us would pit and luckily we stayed out, we were aggressive. We felt like we were on the tires again. Can fire and be fine,” Byrne told FS1 after the race. “And you were one of the most aggressive guys behind you in Logano and I knew I cracked the tires on (Turns) 3 and 4 and left the bottom open, but I could not stop blocking my exit and getting a good drive. Was able to. Off.

For the first time in 75 starts, Chase Elliott beat the field of the NASCAR Cup Series as pole sitter at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday night.

Elliott will be joined in the front row by Eric Almirola, whose second-place starting position is his best since winning pole last season at Nashville Superspeedway.

Cole Custer will start third, matching his career-best Cup debut on the Circuit of the Americas earlier this season. Chris Bucher will start in fourth place, which matches his best start this season (Daytona 500).

One Cup rookie, Todd Gilliland, advanced to the final round of qualifying on Friday. Gilliland starts on Saturday the 10th.

Denny Hamlin (600) – After his win last week, Hamlin feels like a double whammy carrying the low-hanging fruit. But the fact remains that Hamlin is one of the best in Martinsville and could have easily won both races here last year. In the spring, Hamlin led the race for 276 laps before settling in third. Then in the fall, Hamlin led 103 laps and was ahead with less than 10 to go before his now-infamous run-in with Alex Bowman.

Since late 2019, Hamlin’s tendency has been to win in groups, as he has won two races on five separate occasions within a four-race period. Hamlin hasn’t won one win since 2012, but it could very well and very easily turn this weekend into one of its best racetracks. For the rest of the constraints:

Martin Truex Jr 450
Denny Hamlin 600
Chase Elliot 700
Ryan Blaney 750
Kyle Bush 750
Kyle Larson 800

MARTINSVILLE, VA – A haze of rain and chilly weather has halted the start of Saturday night’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

The driver was introduced after seven o’clock in the evening. ET, but the pre-race ceremony was played during intermittent rain that drenched the 0.526-mile track. This delayed the Blu-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 (FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), which was initially scheduled for 7:58 p.m. ET green signal

When the race begins, Chase Elliott will start at the No. 9 Hendricks Motorsports Chevrolet Bush Light pole. He will be alongside Eric Almirola’s No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford to begin with.

No car will fall backwards during the pace laps. AJ Allmender would start last in the 36-car field and would face a pass-through penalty shortly after the start after failing a pre-race inspection three times by the number 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet.
