Robbins was linked with a vacancy at Doncaster Rovers and Bristol City following the dismissals of Keith Hill and Derek McInnes respectively in early January 2013. He did, however, promise his future to the Sky Blues. “Opportunities will come and opportunities will go, but I’m not going anywhere. Robbins parted company with Huddersfield by mutual consent on 10 August 2014, just a day after Huddersfield lost their opening game of the 2014/15 season 4–0 at home to Bournemouth.
On 13 October 2014, Robbins was named as the new manager of Scunthorpe United on a three-year contract, replacing Russ Wilcox and struggling at the wrong end of League One with the Irons.
Robbins was sacked by Scunthorpe on 18 January 2016 with the club finishing 16th in League One along with assistant David Kelly. The Irons have won only two of their last eight league games and suffered a 5-0 loss at Blackpool last weekend.
On 6 March 2017, a day after Russell Slade was sacked, Robbins returned to Coventry as manager; With Coventry at the bottom of League One and 13 points for safety. Robbins signed a contract “beyond the current season”. Robbins brought back his former Sky Blues assistant Steve Taylor to become his number two once again. Within days, the Sky Blues won the Checktrade Trophy with a 2–1 win over Oxford at Wembley. However the rest of the season was not so favorable and Covenantry were relegated to League Two on 14 April 2017 after a 1–1 draw with Charlton. Coventry returned to League One in May 2018 under Robbins, defeating Exeter City.
In October 2019, he was roped in with a managerial vacancy at Sunderland following the dismissal of Jack Ross.

Famous for scoring the winning score in a 1990 FA Cup game for Manchester United, which ultimately meant Alex Ferguson kept his job, Mark Robbins retired from playing in 2005 after a brief spell with Burton Albion.
Beginning his professional playing career at Old Trafford, where he won the FA Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup, he made over 400 first-team appearances and scored over 100 goals for 13 clubs over a 17-year period, including Mantras were also included with the teams. Robbins moved to management upon retiring from the sport and joined Rotherham United as an assistant manager in 2005 before stepping down as manager two years later.
