“I learned a lot of things from Coach Freddy that I didn’t know I could do,” Magsayo told The Ring. “I’m very enlightened by new techniques: footwork, angles and being smarter than my opponent. Small talk, correcting my bad habits—it matters a lot in the ring.”
The pair worked together sometime in 2015. Roach feels the Filipino hitter has improved since then and can now compete at the highest level.
“Mark has matured as a boxer,” Roach said. “He still needs work, so we’ll see how it goes. Mark has the potential to be world champion.”
