Margaret Court AC MBE (born 16 July 1942), also known as Margaret Smith Court, is an Australian retired tennis player and former world No. She is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time, with her 24 major singles titles and 64 major titles (including 19 Grand Slam women’s doubles and 21 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles) the most in tennis history. He is currently a Christian minister in Perth, Western Australia.

Court holds the record for Grand Slam singles titles with 24, one ahead of Williams. But it is Williams who is usually described as the greatest player of all time. The Aussie mostly played in the amateur era, but believes life on tour is easier now.
Homophobic
In response to Margaret Court’s comments regarding homosexuality, fellow tennis great Martina Navratilova wrote an open letter on Thursday.
The letter was published by the Sydney Morning Herald, and was highly critical of Navratilova Court in it:
“Now it’s quite clear who Court is: an amazing tennis player, and a racist and a homosexual. Her vitriol isn’t just an opinion. She’s actively trying to stop LGBT people from getting equal rights ( Note to Court: We are human beings, too). She is showcasing trans children and trans adults everywhere.”
Navratilova’s remarks came after the court recently told West Australian (h/t Bhakti Puvananthiran of the Sydney Morning Herald) that she intended to stop using the airline Qantas because of her support for same-sex marriage.
In another interview with Vision Christian Radio (h/t The Guardian) on Wednesday, Court discussed homosexuality in women’s tennis:
“Tennis is full of gays. Even when I was playing there was only a couple, but those couples who took the youngsters to parties. And what you get on top is often the players of that sport. The medium gets you right. . . . We’re here to help overcome them. We’re not against people.”
