Stats
Though an average percentage shooter, Smart is aggressive on offense and defense, and as the longest tenured Celtic he is widely recognized as the heart and soul of the team. He often guards opposing players taller than him, using physicality to make them uncomfortable, often causing turnovers or missed shots.
Over his years in the league, his three-point shooting has improved to the point where he’s a league-average three-point threat. His former teammate, Kemba Walker, describes the energy he brings to the game: “It’s exciting. It’s energizing. He just gets everybody going. Gets us going, gets the crowd going. Like I said, we just kinda feed off him. He just does so many great things. And propels our defense each and every night.”
Preseason Game
“Smart and Celtics have discussed the matter, resolved it and he was with the team on road trip in Orlando and now Miami,” Shams Charania reported.
Boston Celtics star Marcus Smart will be suspended for the team’s NBA preseason game, according to a new report. Smart breached a team rule and won’t play the game against Miami, Athletic and Stadium reporter Shams Charania said Thursday, citing sources.
Suspend
Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart will be suspended for Friday’s preseason game against the Miami Heat, coach Ime Udoka told reporters Thursday. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Smart’s suspension is due to him missing the team flight to Orlando. The Celtics played there on Wednesday. Teams frequently play road games against both Florida teams on the same road trip in order to limit travel.
Vs Heat
The Boston Celtics are suspending guard Marcus Smart for Friday’s preseason game against the Miami Heat for breaching a team rule, the team announced Thursday, confirming an earlier report from The Athletic. Smart and Celtics have discussed the matter, resolved it, and he was with the team on their current road trip.
Coach Ime Udoka told the reporters Smart was remorseful and “we’ve handled it” during a media availability Thursday. “Marcus is one of our leaders that we expect a lot from, he understands that,” Udoka said, adding, “It’s one of my rules (that was broken). We talked about it from Day 1. Like I said, it’s been handled internally. He won’t play tomorrow and be ready for opening night.”
