Rangers on Wednesday signed second baseman Marcus Semien on a seven-year deal. The contract is worth $175 million, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

It’s the first major splurge for a team that has publicly expressed its intention to spend big in free agency this winter. But an even bigger splash was off: Rangers on Monday agreed a 10-year, $325 million deal with shortstop Corey Seeger.

Rangers President of Baseball Operations John Daniels said, “Marcus’ reputation around the game is impeccable. He is a leader in every clubhouse he steps into, the way he goes about his work and the way he interacts with others.” How he behaves, he is respected.” “There are few players in the sport who achieve that level of respect from teammates and opponents. We are thrilled to add a player of his caliber to the organization.”
