The club was founded in 1917, operating simply as Toronto and known then as the Toronto Arenas. Under new ownership, the club was renamed the Toronto St. Patricks in 1919. In 1927, the club was purchased by Conn Smythe and renamed the Maple Leafs. A member of the “Original Six”, the club was one of six NHL teams to have endured through the period of League retrenchment during the Great Depression.

Vs blackhawks

The Blackhawks finally got that lead but blew it as the Maple Leafs came back for an OT win.

To be honest, this may have been the hardest Blackhawks game to focus on in a long time. On the ice, the Blackhawks are struggling to find footing so far in the NHL season, taking the title for the longest start to an NHL season without a lead during an 0-5-1 start.

Vs hurricanes

David Ayres, a 42-year-old emergency backup goalie, made eight saves for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 6-3 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday.

Ayres, who drives the ice resurfacing machine at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto and is a regular participant at Maple Leafs practices when an extra goalie is required, entered at 11:19 of the second period after Petr Mrazek sustained an upper-body injury in a collision with Maple Leafs forward Kyle Clifford in a race for the puck.

Ayres became the oldest goalie in NHL history to win his regular-season debut; the record was held by Hugh Lehman with the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 17, 1926 (41 years, 21 days).

Post game interview tonight

Jack Campbell poured his heart into the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 29-year-old American netminder was emotional in his post-game Zoom call after the Maple Leafs lost Game 7 to the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 on Monday evening. The Leafs blew a 3-1 lead in the series. They haven’t won a playoff series since 2004.

Campbell really took the loss personally. He played well in the series, but surrendered a soft goal to Brendan Gallagher in Game 7 to open the scoring. Campbell felt like he let the team down and became emotional after the loss.

Maple leafs

The Pittsburgh Penguins scored six straight goals without their top three centers in a 7-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday.

Marcus Pettersson had a goal and two assists, Drew O’Connor scored twice and Tristan Jarry made 28 saves for the Penguins (3-0-2), who were missing centers Sidney Crosby (wrist), Evgeni Malkin (knee) and Jeff Carter (NHL COVID-19 protocol), right wing Bryan Rust (lower body) and defenseman Kris Letang (COVID-19 protocol).
