“Manny is a quick healer,” Flaherty said. “He takes care of his body and he has the ability to recover really quickly.”

In the end, Machado may be out for several weeks initially scared. There was a walking boot in front of his locker on Monday, and the area around his ankle looked strange, according to onlookers.

San Diego Padres star baseball player Manny Machado sustained an ankle injury while trying to reach first base against the Colorado Rockies.

Padres fans held their collective breath as All-Star third baseman Manny Machado went down with a terrifying ankle twist while trying to throw a throw out to first base.

bad news for pundits
According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, Machado was able to walk off the field with some help from San Diego’s training staff while putting limited weight on the ankle.

Update

Unfortunately, he suffered a really bad looking injury at first base and had to be helped off the field:

Machado was in obvious pain after awkwardly slipping from behind base while trying to defeat the throw. His front leg hit the dirt, rolled badly, and you just have to hope it’s not as bad as it looked. It can be a terrible, terrible injury.

The 41-26 Padres are already playing without Fernando Tatis Jr., and are just half a game out in the competitive NL West so far. Nevertheless, losing Manny Machado for a long time would be a terrible blow to him and obviously for him.

Update: The good news is that there is no fracture, although as with ankles, the damage that can happen to ligaments and tendons is sometimes of even greater concern. If Machado survives the serious damage, he will be incredibly lucky, because he looked so bad.

The San Diego Padres were able to do what the Chicago White Sox couldn’t: get Manny Machado and his brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso, into the same organization.

According to Dennis Lynn of The Athletic, the Padres acquired Alonso from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday for an undisclosed amount. Lin says Alonso will report to the club’s taxi squad.

The White Sox signed Alonso in 2019 as part of their effort to woo Machado through free agency. The first baseman remained at Chicago until the White Sox placed him on a waiver in July of the same year.

The 33-year-old has yet to feature in a major league game this season and owns a career slash line of .259/.332/.404 with 100 home runs in 10 seasons.
