Transfer News:

Both Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have endured such miserable form of late that their hopes of making England’s World Cup squad hang by a thread these days. Sancho has often struggled for composure in front of goal, but he showed plenty of it after 16 minutes at Old Trafford, collecting Anthony Elanga’s low cross in a central position in the box.

Realising he had time, Sancho dropped his shoulder to evade the lunging James Milner before side-footing past Alisson for his first United goal since March 6.

Vs Liverpool:

Discontent has soared following United’s poor start to the season, which has seen the team lose both of their games — 2-1 at home to Brighton and a 4-0 humiliation at Brentford.

The target of the majority of the anger is the Glazer family, who bought United in 2005 with a leveraged takeover that loaded debt onto a club that previously didn’t have any.

Critics say the Glazers, who also own the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have failed to invest enough of their own cash in the squad or facilities and have presided over years of failure by England’s biggest team.

Liverpool picked up the pace in an attempt to find an equaliser as the first half came to a close but United weathered the storm and doubled their lead through Marcus Rashford fewer than 10 minutes into the second half.

Jurgen Klopp’s men pulled one back through Mohamed Salah with a neat finish at the back post to set up a nervy ending to the match but United managed to hold on and secure their first win of the season.

Payments on interest, debt and dividends to the Glazers are estimated to have cost United more than £1 billion.
