NFL
After a phenomenal first season with the Liberty, Malik Willis entered the 2022 NFL Draft class as a QB1 contender this year. Willis’ scouting report reveals a recreational creator with elite hands-on talent, showing that he has the physical tools to become a star in the NFL. After a roller coaster of a college football season, however, his assessment is as complex as the class he lives in.
A dual-threat quarterback with two years of starting experience at the college level, Willis is a dynamic playwright with both his arms and legs. At 6’1″, he won’t be the tallest quarterback in the class, but the NFL shouldn’t be against him. At 215 pounds, he has an excellent build to take high physical stiffness to the next level.
Transfer
Malik Willis was a member of the Auburn Tigers under coach Gus Malzan.
But, when he didn’t win Auburn’s starting job, he transferred to Liberty in 2019, sitting out the 2019 season before developing into a star for the Hugh Freeze Flames in the last 2 seasons. Now a potential first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Willis joined “McElroy and Cublick in the Morning” on WJOX to discuss his transfer decision and what it’s like to play for Freeze. I mean, I wasn’t starting out and I wanted to play football, so I had to do something,” Willis said. “Little did I know that the transfer portal would be a tough place when you’re not a 5-star Is.
NFL draft 2022
This year’s NFL draft doesn’t specifically have a front-runner for the top quarterback in the class. Longtime ESPN NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. threw up an interesting name while discussing who could emerge as the most iconic signal-caller over the next few months.
“The mock draft is about what we’re hearing, not what we think, and so I say, when you look at Malik Willis, I think by the time we get to the end of April, then By the time he could be the first quarterback,” Kipper said.
Willis spent the last two years as the starting quarterback for the Liberty and was known for his dual-threat ability. In 2021, he threw for 2,857 yards, 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, adding 878 rushing yards and 13 scores. The keeper said that if Willis has an impressive performance at the Senior Bowl on February 5 in Mobile, Alabama, it could propel him. top 10.
“He has that fat upper body, he’s a mighty kid, he’s fast, he surprises people with that deceptive speed and that deceptive strength,” Kipper said. “If he lights it up in mobile, he’ll really be a guy who’ll probably end up in that top 10.”
As far as Willis might get off, Keper speculates that the Atlanta Falcons may be ready to take on a successor to longtime quarterback Matt Ryan.
40
Malik Willis is incredibly fast. In his sophomore year at Auburn University in 2018, it was reported that he ran 4.37 40 yards. As he matured and his body developed, there is reason to believe that he must have grown even faster. Since 2000 only two quarterbacks have run a 40 yard dash that was a sub 4.4: Robert Griffin III and Michael Vick. If Willis chooses to run in the combine, see him join that group.
