About a dozen well-bred horses roared along the beach on the Gold Coast today ahead of the barrier draw for the $10 million Magic Millions Race Day.

“That’s so encouraging, where else in the world can you do that?” Tipster Lizzie Gelfs said. “I’m in a pinch right now.

“You never lose that love of the wind blowing in your face as much as you can and the horses absolutely love it too.”

Brenton Avdulla, Andrew Dittman and Zack Lloyd were jockeys charging up the sand at Surfers Paradise.

Veteran jockey Robbie Fred sat at the back of the pack and enjoyed the spectacle.

“For an older person I just sit back, I don’t want to get too involved. There is a big net in the end and you have to work hard or get to the end,” he said.

Jockey Brett Pebble said: “It’s a lot of fun and the horses enjoy it, they get on the reins.”

They favored hard sand along the water’s edge instead of the softer sand on the beach. “It’s a whopping 10 wide,” he said.

Co-trainer Ciaron Maher believes long-time favorite Coolangatta has made the ‘perfect’ look for Saturday’s $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in Gold Coast.

At Tuesday’s barrier event in Surfers Paradise, the Dual Group 3 winner will jump through the middle of the capacity zone after the connection is removed from Barrier 13.

If no emergency starts, the Coolangatta Barrier will jump to 10.

Maher, who works with David Eustace, said he was very pleased with the mid draw and remains the $1.85 favorite with TAB to capture the Coolangatta 2YO Classic.

The unbeaten Sydney Philly Russian Conquest ($7) is one of Snowden Racing Yard’s two leading contenders and was one of the big winners of the draw.

Max Lees Classic winner will jump over barrier four while stablemate and Aquis Gold Pearl winner Miss Hellfire is at 11.

Annabel Neesham got a gut punch while drawing one from outside at Barrier 20 for her leading contender Soaring Ambition.

She undoubtedly hopes she can switch the draw with her other runner and the first emergency Swiss ace of the race, who drew the handicap.

Kiwi raiders Bright Blue Sky (Barrier 16) and Danny O’Brien’s Stupendo (19) were both tasked with a difficult task.

Beach race
