Ervin “Magic” Johnson Jr. (born August 14, 1959) is an American former professional basketball player and the former president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was an intense competitor, leading his high school team to a state championship in 1977 and Michigan State University to the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship in 1979—handing the only defeats of that season to Larry Bird and Indiana State.
