Madison De Rozario is an Australian Paralympic athlete and wheelchair racer who specialises in sprint, middle and long-distance events in the T53 classification. She competed at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Summer Paralympics, winning two gold medals, three silver and a bronze.

Gold:

Before the Tokyo Paralympics began, Australia’s new marathon champion Madison de Rozario was grappling with the fear that she might never quite make it.

All de Rozario ever wanted was to be like her coach and hero, Louise Sauvage, a pioneer of wheelchair racing and a legend of the sport. Yet a Paralympics gold medal had eluded her.

With three silvers to her name across the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Games, de Rozario tried to tell herself she wouldn’t be defined by results, but her desire to emulate her mentor’s feats never faded.

Sauvage pulled her aside.

“There was a point in my career where I worried that I couldn’t be like Louise,” de Rozario said. “But it was her that stopped all of it.

Barbie:

Madison de Rozario’s career and achievements have been recognised with the Australian Paralympian commemorated as a Barbie doll.

Rozario, along with other numerous female Para athletes, will be the popular toy brand’s “Shero” doll.

Josh George:

Australian wheelchair racer Madison de Rozario is trying to convince one the sport’s best athletes to wear green and gold at the next Paralympics.

Rozario is dating five-time Paralympic medallist Josh George and after the American moved to Sydney last November the pressure has been mounting to become an Australian citizen.
