The injury was added to the dismay of New England Patriots fans, at the end of Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the 2022 home opener, as Mack Jones suffered a leg injury late in the fourth quarter.
Multiple reports indicate that Jones is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain, which could send him to the injured reserve list if confirmed by an MRI.

Mack Jones’ day against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday ended in utter pain.
The Patriots quarterback suffered a left ankle injury on his final pass in a 37-26 loss to the Ravens of New England, an interception on a pass to Kendrick Bourne. Jones seemed to be in severe pain as he stepped off the field on one leg.
According to reporters at the scene, Jones was supposed to be helped into the locker room by two Patriots employees.
Update Twitter
According to Tom Pelicero of NFL Network, the second-year quarterback’s X-ray came back negative.
Per source, “X-rays on Patriots QB Mac Jones’ injured back were negative. Will be evaluated when team returns to Foxborough,” Pelicero posted on Twitter.
Given that the Patriots are already struggling aggressively, it could be devastating for staff to lose their quarterback earlier this season. It’s going to take a huge effort to show the issues around, and Jones is essential in all of this.
He completed the season-opener 21-of-30 passing for 213 yards, one landing and one interception. Those numbers will clearly have to increase significantly if employees have any hope of competing in an improved AFC East division.
Jones has to throw high, build the offensive line high and the receivers have to open extras constantly. It’s going to take the whole team effort.
Report
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, an X-ray of Jones’ foot came back negative. Rapoport and Tom Pelissero later stated that it was “believed” that Jones suffered an ankle sprain and would be in a short period of time. That diagnosis won’t be official until Jones undergoes an MRI on Monday.
If Jones has indeed suffered a high-ankle sprain, a trip to injured reserve — and missing at least four games — would certainly be hopeful.
Several teammates spoke of Jones’ toughness after Sunday’s defeat.
“Mac is one hell of a quarterback,” Matthew Judon said after the game. “We don’t know what happened; we’ll find out in the coming days. I’m riding with 10. Whether we play in the parking lot, we play at Gillette, whatever. I’m riding with him.”
