Luke Joseph Fikel (born August 18, 1973) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head football coach at the University of Cincinnati. He began his career at Ohio State University, first as a player and then as an assistant coach. He was interim head coach at OSU for the entire 2011 season and accepted the head football coaching position with the University of Cincinnati in 2016.

Luke Fikel has taken the University of Cincinnati to the brink of the college football playoffs. He’s also put himself on the radar of NFL teams – even before this year. Sources say the Detroit Lions spoke quietly with Fikel about his head coaching vacancy last year, before they hired Dan Campbell, and that Fikel expects within the league to be the NFL in the upcoming hiring cycle. Will be in the mix again for Jobs, if he’s interested. Fickel, 48, spent a season on injured reserve as a player with the New Orleans Saints in 1997. He never coached in the NFL. But his outstanding reputation as a leader of men during his 15 years on the staff at Ohio State and the last five years with the upstart Bearcats made him interesting, just as Titans coach Mike Wrabel rose from the same Buckeyes staff.

Luke Fikel was promoted to the position of head coach of the Ohio State football team on May 30, 2011. The team’s former assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach thus became the 23rd head coach in Buckeye football’s 121 years. Fikel is only the fifth Ohio State head coach in the past 60 years, after Woody Hayes (28 seasons; 1951–78), Earl Bruce (nine seasons; 1979–87), John Cooper (13 seasons; 1988–2000) and Jim.
