Early in the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon, Luka Doncic checked back into the game with his Dallas Mavericks trailing the Milwaukee Bucks by one. Less than three minutes later, after Doncic orchestrated a brilliant 11-2 run, the Mavericks were up by eight and would never trail again.
Sunday afternoon’s national TV game between the Bucks and Mavericks was billed as a matchup between two of the game’s brightest young stars: Giannis Antetokounmpo and Doncic.
MVP:
Doncic finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, 15 assists and three steals as he led the Mavericks to a 118-112 win. While he didn’t quite get another triple-double, he did extend his 30-point streak to five games, which is the longest of his career.
In addition, he recorded his third 30-point, 15-assist game of the season, which is as many as the rest of the league combined.
His entire performance was impressive, as the stats and accolades show, but it was that three-minute stretch in the fourth quarter that really stood out. So much so that it’s worth going through play-by-play.
