LIV Golf (/lɪv/) is a professional golf tour funded by the Public Investment Fund, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Saudi Arabia. The name LIV is a reference to the Roman numeral of 54, the score if birdies were made on each hole on a par-72 course and the number of holes played in LIV events. The first LIV Golf Invitational Series event began on 9 June 2022 at the Centurion Club near London, England.

Brandon Grace produced a stunning final round win to win the LIV Golf Portland event and claim the £3.2m first prize. South Africa had started two shots behind Carlos Ortiz, but a round of 65 saw him storm to victory three shots away from the Mexican. Former world No. 1 Dustin Johnson was in contention despite a slow start but could not keep pace with Grace at the back-nine, while Patrick Reed’s charge came too late to threaten the top of the leaderboard.

Grace won twice on the PGA Tour and nine times on the European Tour before moving to LIV Golf before the inaugural event at the Centurion Club last month. He is part of the Stinger GC team that won just outside London as Charl Schwartzell claimed the victory. Despite Grace’s performance, it was the 4 Aces team comprising Johnson, Reid, Pat Perez and Talor Gooch who took the prize this time.

While the action unfolded, LIV Golf also announced their latest new signing in Ryder Cup regular Paul Casey. “LIV Golf continues to attract the best players in the game as it creates increasingly competitive fields with each event,” said Greg Norman, chief executive of LIV Golf. “Paul Casey joins a growing list of Top 50 golfers who are excited to be part of an innovative and entertaining format that is creating something new for golf. His proven track record on a global stage is another in the competition. Adds exciting piece as we prepare for Bedminster.”

This isn’t the first time Garcia has had an ugly outburst in recent weeks.

Just before joining LIV Golf, he was given a time penalty while looking for his ball on the PGA Tour, and was heard on camera saying: “That’s absolute bulls**t.

“Can’t wait to get out of here. … Just a couple more weeks until I need to deal with you anymore.”

Speaking about the most recent rant, the unnamed source told the Telegraph: “Earlier, Sergio’s reputation took a beating anyway, but this has sealed it for many of us.

“The rant in the US second month was one thing, but it’s his home tour where he started and he shouldn’t forget that. Fair enough, he’s taken the money. But he doesn’t want to rub other players’ noses into it.”
