LIV Golf London: Results| Highlights| Day 1 Results

LIV Golf is a professional golf tour financed by the Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. The name LIV is a reference to the Roman numeral for 54, the score if every hole on a par-72 course were birdied and the number of holes to be played at LIV events.

Wiki:

The Premier Golf League held talks with Saudi investors about a financial partnership, but Golf Saudi (a division of the Public Investment Fund) instead funded a new formed entity in 2020 which had its own plan to establish a global professional league, often referred to as the “Super Golf League”. This entity formally launched in October 2021 as LIV Golf Investments, with former professional golfer Greg Norman named as CEO.

LIV Golf has often been described as the golfing equivalent of the dormant breakaway European Super League in football.

Wolff made his ace on the 178-yard second hole, his fifth of the round. The ball took one-hop and disappeared into the cup for the first ace in the fourth LIV Golf Invitational series.

The former Oklahoma State star had another eagle on the par-5 12th hole to go along with six birdies. Those offset three bogeys and was enough for him to take the lead.

Purse:

Like the three previous LIV events held since the Saudi-backed circuit’s launch in June, the winner of the individual competition will earn $4 million for his victory from an overall purse of $20 million.

With only 48 players in the field and no cut, everybody who competes is guaranteed to take home at least $120,000.

Massachusetts:

It’s the latest tournament stop in the new LIV Golf professional golf series that is receiving a lot of attention.

Not only for its big-name stars like Phil Mickelson and Cameron Smith — the second-ranked golfer in the word — but also because the series is financially backed by the government of Saudi Arabia with its reported lengthy list of human-rights abuses.
