Eritrean-American Lily Yohannes, daughter of Daniel Yohannes and Semhar Bokretsian and granddaughter of legendary Bokretsian Gebrehiwot, signed her first contract with Ajax Women this week. Lily was born on June 12, 2007 in Springfield, Virginia. She has two siblings, one of whom, Ethan Yohannes, plays for Wake Forest University and the US Under 15–17 national team. The young lady has been playing in the Ajax Women’s Talent Team since last season.
Salary
She has since signed consecutive one-year contracts and earned a $3.5 million base salary this season plus $5.5 million in incentives based on games.
Who is
Yohannes was born in Springfield, Virginia, to Eritrean parents. When she was ten years old, she moved to the Netherlands after her father accepted a job in Amsterdam. Johannes played youth football in the Netherlands and began weekly training with Ajax when he was 13.
Debut
At the age of 16 years and 358 days, Lily Yohannes became the eighth-youngest player to debut for the USWNT and the youngest player to take the field for the USWNT since March 2001, when 16-year-old Amy Steadman. and Kristen Weis both made their debut for the United States against Italy.
