Earlier on Thursday, police confirmed the victim as 17-year-old Lily Conroy. The ex-boyfriend shot her and seriously injured herself, identified as 19-year-old Masao Kanga of Springville. Kanga graduated from Springville High last year.
Officials said Lily Conroy was not expected to survive, but on Thursday she remained on life support as doctors and her family prepared to donate her organs. Police are asking if any local family needs an organ donation, contact 801-489-9421.
Bishop Jeff Baird of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led Thursday’s vigil, where hundreds of people gathered, calling on community members to continue showing love and support to both families.

Lily Conroy, a 17-year-old from Springville, lived just a few blocks away from her boyfriend, Masao Kanga. Masao Kanga, who was 19 at the time, went to the same high school as Lily Conroy. On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the two had a minor disagreement, which resulted in their tragic breakup. Masao called his mother the next day to say he would be at the park, just to let her know where he was.
Police later found the two teenagers in their car parked in the park. Lily Conroy was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend, who then pointed a pistol at himself. The brutal murder-suicide attempt horrified the Spriggville community, which is currently attending a memorial service for fallen souls on May 19.
Blue ribbons were also placed along the treeline of the Wildflower Way to commemorate the heavenly lilies’ blue eyes. Her classmates also dressed up in class on Sundays to show respect to her departed soul.
