Liang Wenbo, a professional snooker player, was fined and given 12 months of conditional leave for repeatedly hitting and beating a woman in Sheffield city centre. On 20 July 2021, he was seen having a fight with the woman in the CCTV.
Despite attempts by another man to intervene, Wenbo was seen dragging the woman to the floor and continuing her attack. However Wenbo was caught on camera slamming and punching the woman against the wall.
On February 9, 2022, he pleaded guilty to the charge, and on April 1, 2022, he was given a 12-month community order and a fine of £1380. Yorkshire’s Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Jonathan Waitrech said: “Weinbow repeatedly and purposefully attacked the victim late at night, leaving her in extreme distress.”

In July 2009, Liang defeated world number two Stephen Maguire 7–6 in the final to win his first professional title, the Beijing International Challenge. He achieved another breakthrough in August, when he reached the final of the Shanghai Masters, becoming only the second Chinese player and fourth Asian man to reach the ranking final. He was eventually runner-up to Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Liang played in eleven of the twelve lower-ranked PTC events throughout the season, with a best performance in Event 10, where he lost to Dominic Dale in the quarterfinals. He also reached the last 16 in two other events to finish 38th in the PTC Order of Merit, outside the top 24 qualifying for the final.
